My new office!

Postby Bodytemple on Wed Jan 11, 2012 4:25 pm

So I hate the office I'm in now. I have 2 rooms in a shared suite. A new tenant moved in yesterday and when I got to work today I saw that he had taken down all my signs. I was planning on moving to my own suite anyway but that made me super annoyed so I'm trying to get moved into my new space ASAP.

Here's some pics of the new place. When you walk in there's a reception are with a bathroom and then there's a door leading into a 325 sq/ft room with a small divider. On the small end of the divider is where I'm doing to have my thai yoga massage mat and setup. On the larger side will be my massage table. There's also a small corner where I will probably set up a massage chair.

The space needs a bit of work. I'm going to paint and put new flooring in the bathroom and massage room. I'm going to put down vinyl plank flooring that looks like hardwood and just have a large rug under the massage table. I'm hoping to be in it by Feb. 1!!!

Reception area is 12x13

The closed door leads to the bathroom. I'll somehow cover that door or keep it locked so the only way into the bathroom is from the reception area.

The doors in this pic leads into other suites and they're dead bolted. The landlord is going to have them soundproofed and covered with drywall.

Why is the guy taking down your signs? :irked:

I don't know...he acts like he owns the whole suite. He moved in yesterday and immediately put his company name on the door and window. His vinyl letters are 5"-6" tall and spread out about 5 feet! All I had was a small sign with my company name, website and phone number then inside the suite at the entrance to my little hallway is a small 8"x10" framed sign. He took both of them down!!! I then heard him in his office talking to a guy who informed him that he should "try to get rid of the massage parlor across the hall"! I was like WTF?!?!?!

Here's a pic of the entrance yesterday, that's my little sign on the bottom. The landlord said I couldn't have it on the glass so it on the inside propped up against the window.

I haven't been on here for a little while. My life is INSANE right now. Too much BS to even get into. :lipsaresealed:

Anyway, I've been working on the new office. My move in date is the 13th of this month. My landlord soundproofed the office for me...which is AWESOME! I'm leaving the reception area the way it is with the flooring and paint since that's all pretty new. I got a loveseat off craigslist for super cheap and I have a rocking chair from home that I'm putting in there. I don't like the whole "waiting room" feel that some MT practices have. I want a relaxing feel to my space.

I painted the bathroom and it looks 150% better than before. Here's pics.

The treatment room is 325 sq/ft which is ginormous! It has a small divider in the middle. One side will be for table massage and the other will be set up for Thai Yoga Massage. I'm putting down new flooring (by myself) and I must say that I'm very proud of how it's turning out.

I can not wait to get moved into this new space. And did I mention...it's only 3 miles from my house! In downtown! In a great shopping center! And the pizza place next door made me a great vegan calzone tonight!

I'm so impressed!!!!

May I ask a question about your floor? How do you make sure it is the right length at the walls? Do *you* cut it, or does it come prepared, by ordering it properly?

My husband says it looks great too (I showed him)! :)

It's so great that you are leaving your old place with the troublesome new neighbor at just this time.
Oh - and boo on your old landlord for changing the "rules" for that guy :irked:

Your new place will be awesome...and you don't have to share with nincompoops.

(om, nom, nom that veggie calzone!)

The flooring is soooo easy! It's vinyl plank flooring. Scratch proof, water proof and super durable! http://www.lowes.com/pd_61298-49131-A68 ... facetInfo=

It's a floating floor so they stick together. It makes nothing more than a box cutter to cut the pieces to fit. I've literally been putting the floor down by myself with zero experience in flooring!

Boo on him indeed! I'm happy that I'm leaving in a week! I'm soooo happy to have a place to myself! And yes that veggie calzone was amazing! I will be gaining weight working next door to the pizza place for sure!

I love your new flooring! I have been considering installing a floating floor similar to this in my office but I was not sure if I could handle it myself. Can I ask you if it has a strong odor? My office is small and I am afraid that the plastic smell will linger for a long time.

Your new space looks awesome!! I am so glad to hear how this is progressing for you..

My new space is in a shared suite of rooms and I have had some of those very issues with signs and sharing the cleaning duties (which basically means I do most of the cleaning) But it's a start and I will keep my eyes peeled for another space that is more appropriate..

Can't wait to see the finished product!!

Honestly, I can't smell it at all...and I have a very strong sense of smell. I think it's def worth the investment!

Thanks! My original location was meant to be a part time thing but ended up full time when the guy I was working for as an IC got mad that I opened my own side business and basically kicked me out lol. We all have to start somewhere. I'm very happy that I was able to find a place to myself. I can't deal with sharing a space. The suite I was in is shared by a weird mix of businesses so I think that was the main issue. Our companies didn't mesh well together.

I will have everything finished this week and I'm moving in this weekend. I'll post pics when it's all fixed up.

Thanks everyone. I did run into some issues with the walls not being straight towards the end but after a lot of adjustments and cussing I got it to work.

My friend and I put the baseboards down today. We decided to glue the baseboards on rather than nail them and they turned out great...or good enough.

Got some things moved in today. I would have moved it all but I had 3 clients at the old office and couldn't get started with the move until 3.

Here's a couple of pics. They only show half of the room. I'll post pics of the Thai Massage area of the room tomorrow, along with pics of the reception area.
