Does anyone know if it's illegal for a doctor to buy police reports?

Who is getting the money? The jurisdiction or a single officer? Because I thought police reports were a matter of public record, although I could be wrong. Our state police have many police reports online.

I asked my husband and he said they're public record as well. If an attorney is representing someone (or prosecuting) they can always get police reports for anyone.

...and I'm guessing since an attorney would charge for their time to obtain the reports, I'm guessing it wouldn't be too far fetched for someone to say that they had paid to get the reports.

Maybe the police weren't paid, but actually the attorney for their time.

I'm sure the lawyer would charge for his/her time to obtain the information. But something else to consider is that while the records are public, where I live, there is a minimal fee to get a copy of that report!

I know they pay some good money for the reports. It sounded like "Ambulance-chasing" to me
