first clinic tomorrow

Postby Leanne on Sat Jul 17, 2010 7:35 am

tomorrow is my first day of clinics. I have my guest book, water, mints and business cards. Our teacher is picking one of us for body work!! Can't wait to see who it is. Any tips or advice?

Relax and have fun. Try to focus on what you do right, and not get hung up on your mistakes (the hardest part for me). Remember it's a learning experience, you are not suppose to be a pro..... yet.

One of my most memorable and positive massage experiences happened towards the end of my clinic training.

Good luck

I found taking a few minutes before hand to do some deep breathing. Remember while in session to take full breaths. I was a breath-holder in case you aren't guessing LOL! I would find myself out of breath, literally and then it was embarrasing because I was huffing haha!

Also remember your body mechanics! The more comfortable you are giving a massage, the better it translates to the person *Receiving* the massage.

Don't move too fast, read the thread that JasonE wrote about SLOOOWING DOWN.

Good luck!! :D

thank you both for the tips. I loved the Slooowing down thread. I'm ready to have some fun and get some more practice.

It's done, it was great!! Only had one person that I could not seem to get enough pressure on. I had all my weight on him but my sharper tools were pretty tired :( When we were done he told me he was a student. I should get some good feedback on this one. Last one of the day fell asleep and left a tip in the sheets. Can't take the tips :( turned it in to the office and let them know who left it.

Congratulations!

I really dreaded clinic when I was in school, it was very hard for me to put myself and my skills out there.
But it ultimately was a very rewarding experience that gave me lots of confidence.
I'm glad I was "forced" to do it!
