Can I do facials in Illinois??

Postby bellarosamassage on Tue Aug 10, 2010 1:51 am

What are the rules regarding facials as a Licensed Illinois Massage Therapist?
I know we can do face massage, can we use scrubs, cleansers or steam?
I am pretty sure we cannot do extractions but I would really like to know the boundaries on this and I cannot find the answer anywhere..

Thank you in Advance!

Are you also a licensed esthetician? If not, then off the top of my head I'd say the answer is no (at least for cleansers, I don't know how far the restrictions go towards scrubs or steam.)

As licensed massage therapists we're qualified to do soft tissue work. Can we use different products on our clients while doing this work? Sure, but it's a different story when your intention is not working soft tissue (muscles, fascia, etc) but affecting the surface and quality of the skin with specialized products.

There's a LOT to know about the skin, different conditions, and knowing what products you can and can't use under certain circumstances. This is why estheticians are also licensed in Illinois.
