Drink lots of barley-pop. Eat lots of smoked meat with some lovely red sauce on it, relax under shade trees. Aloe is supposed to help.

Aloe vera juice is very good - good suggestion, Mick. You only need 1/4 cup once or twice a day. George's Aloe Vera Juice is good - tastes like spring water! Some of the others are pretty icky, but can be tolerated better in a strong juice.

Many ulcers have a start because of bacteria, so anti-bacterial foods are good - garlic is very strong. Colloidal silver is a natural antibiotic, too, and can be found at a health food store. Aloe is healing, as is peppermint tea and licorice tea. I am packing, so my books are in boxes for the next month.

One thing I do remember is that we tend to try to deal with the acid by cutting out acids and consuming more base foods. But we put in base, and our body tries to balance by producing more acid. If we instead eat or drink something slightly acidic, our body will balance by producing the neutraliziers. Now you know why they sell Tums in those HUGE containers!!

Look into Ayurvedic diet.
Find out what your dosha is, and stick to that diet.
It will help with ulcers and reflux.

I'll also second the aloe vera juice, and acupuncture.

Wow, thanks for all the great info!! :smt050

A friend who is apprenticing to become an herbal practitioner has made me a tea infusion of: meadowsweet (antacid), lemon balm (stress-reliever), nettles (tonic, nutritive), marshmallow (demulcent), echinacea (immune support), licorice root (demulcent, soothing to stomach), comfrey (demulcent, specific to ulcer healing). *Do not use with high blood pressure. Note that there have been inconclusive lab studies reporting Comfrey should not be taken internally, due to the possibility of over-taxing the liver.

She also suggested cabbage juice. :smt118

Is the George's aloe juice typically available at the health food store?

for stomach ulcers

Postby askahealer on Fri Sep 22, 2006 5:54 am

I'd say aloe would be a good choice too.

If the ulcers are caused by h. pylori, mastic gum is said to kill that stubborn bacteria.

Lemon Balm is a wonderful tonic herb. I didn't know about it's application for ulcers but it's just a nice herb for the body, in general, and can be taken long term.

I know of homeopathic remedies that address acid reflux and there may be an enzyme formula that would address stomach ulcers. If you want, I can dig up that info. Just let me know.
