I don't like rolling stools, I can't get adequate leverage on them when I need to pull or push hard. They want to roll out from under me unless I do some serious bracing with my legs, which splits my energy and focus between the client and the stool. Just my .02, YMMV.

An update is in order. After my conversation with my doc I emailed the other therapist offering her an amicable olive branch, attempting to allay her fears (ran it by my pragmatic mom first to make sure the tone was as intended). I told her what the chiro said about the local atmosphere for massage ...

Okay, y'all, I really need your best wishes and positive energy in my corner. I just spoke with my family doc to say I want to rent his space, and he very gently told me that the other therapist interested was in talking with him earlier this week and her "medical massage" designation is weighing in...

I had my second interview (giving 10 minute massages) at the wellness center yesterday and learned two things: * The won't budge on the 50% cut * Since last week they've decided to lower the rates for their Monday therapist to $80/hour and would like me to do the same if I came on board They offered...

So often Orthopedic workers get the "left brain only" tag and energy workers get the "airy fairy" tag. Its the same system in my mind. Why we insist on pointing out differences instead of similarities intrigues me. I agree. Being adopted, I grew up weighing the nature vs. nurture debate and conclud...

I've been interested in energy work for a while now, have dabbled in it ever so slightly but I feel I only know enough to be dangerous at this point, so I do almost no energetic work beyond setting/sending intentions at the open and close of each client session. This is an area I could expand into i...

Renting vs. employment vs. outcalls

When it rains, it pours. I've been doing outcalls (only a few a month) and seeing a few *select* clients in my house, so I'm still in the early stages of getting my business going. Recently I had an influx of 6 new clients all from one person I gave a free 10-minute chair massage to at a local healt...

I hope to see it ear...

Please allow me to rant a bit...

I just quit the job I referenced at the start of this thread. The chiro kept insisting I do free chair massages (at the gym and elsewhere) despite the lack of paying clients. He asked me to come into the gym for an open house, I responded that I wouldn't be willing to give away free chair any more, ...

Never let people waiting make you feel that you need to rush. [...] Use the time to talk to them, find out what their needs are and educate them as to how YOU can help them and certainly have your schedule handy and ask them to make that appointment to come to your office. Yeah, I DO take my time w...

Stroke (CVA - CerebroVascularAccident), paralysis & mass

There's a personal trainer at the gym with a client who has suffered from a stroke (CVA - CerebroVascularAccident) and has some paralysis. The client is benefiting from the gym visits, but the personal trainer asked me if massage would help as well. I asked if the client's doctor said massage was ok...

Wow, several great replies already, thanks! Alas, the answers are just what I suspected. Promoting: Free vs. Paid Chair Massage

Over the last two months I've been doing a fair amount of promotional chair massages almost weekly (2-3 hours per day, 1-2 times a week) at various locations, primarily the Gold's Gym that my employer is next to, in my employer's office (chiro/PT) to his patients, or at health fairs. Most has been u...
