Re: Online scheduling

I can't seem to find the link that describes what is available in the "Free" version, although I think I will end up needing the 2 person version. I found it, but you have to go to this page: https://secure.acuityscheduling.com/signup.php ... and click on any of the links that say, "See all feature...

Re: Online scheduling

Hey there! I still use Acuity Scheduling http://www.acuityscheduling.com/ ... many new features in the last couple of years. You can embed the scheduler into a page on your web site, if desired. Mine is at: http://www.frederickmassagetherapy.com/schedule/ You can also just use a special link that go...

Sick after massage: PTSD or something else?

We've all heard about and possibly experienced feeling poorly after a massage. This case is a little different. Several years ago relatives of "Jane" were murdered. Her husband "John" protected her by attending the subsequent trials, which thankfully ended in convictions. During that time I gave Joh...

Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia

Long shot I know, but I had a client yesterday with Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia (ATN), which she's suffered from since 1991. She says she has tried everything to lessen the incredible pain (apparently the most painful condition one can have), except massage. She wanted to know if I do craniosacral...

Re: Gloves?

What brand of nitrile gloves are folks using? I was looking at several on Amazon and in the comments for every single brand, people mention the glove texture on the fingers (or overall) help them grip things. I'm concerned about the supposed texture making them unsuitable for massage. I'm only inter...

That sometimes taut band above the scapula

Just a quick clarifying question (I hope) ... I'm looking to determine a specific muscle I often feel on my clients. When I detect it, I feel a rather thin, taut band that appears to travel perpendicular to the top of the shoulder, under the middle of the upper traps but above supraspinatus, and it ...

Thanks Marion! Yes, I believe prone will be uncomfortable, but I'll see what my client says. Can certainly do side-lying. Thanks for the barrel roll suggestion, I'll do that. (Just to clarify, you're saying do that while my client is supine, hands on the anterior or lateral ribs?)

Scheuermann's disease (hyperkyphosis of the thoracic spine)

Hi everyone, I have a client with Scheuermann's disease (hyperkyphosis of the thoracic spine, more at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scheuermann's_disease ). He also has excessive lumbar lordotic curvature to compensate. I've been trying to learn more about the condition and what massage techniques a...

Pueppi and Jason, those are both awesome replies. Thank you so much! I will follow the paths you have laid out for me. First stop after doing a little research and replying to the PT is to check out some class options and look for a mentor. I'm excited! Yay!

Pediatric Massage Opportunity (severe disabilities)

Since I recently opened the doors of my new practice, I've been doing a lot of networking and was recently put in touch with a school-based PT who, obviously, works with pediatric patients. In response to my email, she asks if I have "experience providing pain reduction to children with significant ...

Re: Instant Gift Certificates from your website

I have used Acuity the same and had exactly the same client experience as akashafive. IOW, I've embedded the calendar into my web site (you pretty much just add a line of code that Acuity provides). I just let my clients know they could schedule online and they would go to my web site and do so. The...

Re: Instant Gift Certificates from your website

moose_goose, thanks for the feedback! I spent two weeks doing an extensive trial with BodyworkBuddy and I really like it ... except for the lack of a few features and the $35/mo price tag. It's really great though, lots of thoughtful features, is very usable and so nice to have it focused on bodywor...

Starting my new practice in a new location next month and reading back over old ideas ... thanks everyone for your input. Especially you, Josh, thanks so much for the list of 15 points (it's like a FutureMe, only in your case it's PastMe). I'll have to think about #15. ;)

Oops, sorry, I didn't mean to misrepresent the texting feature! I do see it listed in the features list, I guess I overlooked it before. Nice piece of software you've designed! (Among my former web and graphic design job hats, I was a usability specialist.)

I'm not going to do it. At most, her help and client list would be worth $1500 to me ($1000 for her time and $500 for the list) ... MAYBE $2000. Saying her figures are based on the "industry standard" makes me wonder what industry she's talking about. If it's a general method for all industries (she...

Cost and Options for Taking Over a Client List

Hi folks, I'm moving into a new massage office space in December. The town is a new practice area for me, I will (potentially) be building my client load from scratch. As it happens, there was a therapist in the same office space for the last 8 years, but in February she moved to an adjacent state b...

Re: Mistakes to Avoid

Just as we don't want clients developing crushes and ruining the professional relationship, it is not cool as a therapist to crush on your client and ruin it. Makes me sad because things started off so well, and now he's lost a weekly client who always tipped well. Zeniotus, that's really too bad, ...

Re: Unlicensed Therapist?

Pete and Jason, you're right, I shouldn't be embarrassed to uphold the standards of the industry. I'll go ahead and file a report. Yes, folks can get injured by a licensed/certified MT, but there's less chance of that when the person is properly trained. Pueppi, I did read your account about the fra...
