Re: Dying

The book, Midwife for Souls , was helpful to read. I am generally fairly comfortable working with those who are dying, as I was a CNA in a nursing home for 3 years as a kid (senior year in high school and 2 following years), and now fairly often am called to massage someone on hospice care. It is em...

Re: My issue with core strengthening

Oh.......thoughts on core strengthening.. forgot.

I love core strengthening, too. It's a great tool and I have seen incredible results when it was the tool needed for the particular job. ;)

Re: My issue with core strengthening

YES!!!! What drives me CRAZY is people thinking they have THE ANSWER for any specific (general!!) pain, such as low back pain. There are so many intricasies involved in the low back function, that it's just plain silly to say one treatment "works" - or one treatment *doesn't* work. Each body has its...

Re: questionable insurance claim?

I would just give him the information he is asking for. If the claim he's considering trying to make isn't legitimate, the insurance company will let him know that. Even if the dates he requests are on your letterhead, what you are putting into writing is true and accurate. If he requests SOAP notes...

Re: What is going in MA.?

I have been hear via facebook about new grads not being able to get their licenses bc some schools have not satisfied the new education requirements for the Board of Massage Therapy. How is this possible? Yikes! I checked out my school really well before choosing it. Accreditation should mean that ...

Re: My least favorite diagnosis (sigh)

Oh yeah, BIG pet peeve of mine!!! Doctors make lots of "diagnoses" without any testing whatsoever, but that is by far the most common. I handle it basically like Jason does - I can't do a thing about arthritis, but if we can get more mobility in the muscles, they won't be pulling on the joints and i...

Re: trick for folding sheets

The end product in the video is very nice, but as a client I'd also wonder what else the face cradle cover came in contact with. Perhaps tuck the whole thing into a pillow case or something similar for transport? My own method is very, very fast and reasonably compact, but the sheets are more creas...

Re: trick for folding sheets

That's a good way to fold fitted sheets, and the only way I know how, lol. Except I fold both sheets lengthwise and inside out - so that I can unfold the sheet right onto the table with no fumbling, since I am mobile and have to do all the table prep in the presence of the clients. I do have to say ...

Re: Display/Carry Case for EOs

Thank you, Riversinger! The last one is the one I have - and it appears that the first one is what I wanted this one to be - opening like a book. The one I have, to open to get to the oils, one side has to be flipped upside down over the other side, and anything not very tightly stuck in the mesh po...

Re: Display/Carry Case for EOs

Thank you. It looks better than what I have, but I can see why you don't love it. I wish what I have in my mind was something someone has actually made. I want something that kind of opens like a book and leaves each of the oils standing - with slots for different sizes or slots capable of adjusting...

Re: "You call me"

I carry my calendar with me at all times (I use my iPhone calendar) and when I'm faced with this situation, I just open my calendar and ask them, "When would you like to come in?" I do that too - but the "call me" folks don't EVER know their schedules and do not book appointments - they want to be ...

Re: "You call me"

I don't chase down clients. I've found the ones who say "call me" are not very serious about making/keeping an appointment, anyway, but I respond with my "office hours" and hand them a business card or ink pen with my info, and cheerfully say, "whenever you have your calender with you and are ready ...

Who do you work with for credit cards, Touch of Grace? I still haven't heard anything about it from Paypal. Free makes sense. A $30.00 charge with no warning would not endear me. While I cannot imagine *not* locking up clients' credit card info and shredding it after it's no longer needed, I wouldn'...

Re: Employer makes a copy for the license & social security card

I agree with Palpable - there is no reason for them to copy your SS card and license unless you've been hired and are filling out government forms. You do NOT have to let them. The fact that it has become common practice doesn't mean it's right. The more copies of your SS card that are out there, th...

Re: Does Title 19 cover massage?

No, it doesn't cover it. Occasionally they will have a spending allotment that they can choose to spend on massage, but frequently what they get is not nearly enough, and they have to buy their shampoo, toothpaste, etc. out of that, too. :(

Re: your opinion on the master massage brand tables

Any chance that table that broke was the Luna? No, it's not the Luna. I believe it's the Avalon. They replaced the first one with the Avalon XD, because that's what they have. It's all wood, though. Interesting. I've heard so much good about Earthlite, but I had a Luna break w/a client on it the fi...

Re: laundry dryer, oils, linenservice

You will have MORE problems with clients being allergic to laundry service chemicals than you would guess. I do not see how the laundry service is the answer to your current problem. You would spend $100/wk on laundry. $5200 per year. I think you should think this through - not make any hasty decis...
