Re: Need Advice - Working in a Health Club

Well, the intention was to just go in part time to do massage and enjoy the gym. As the interview went on, it was clear that they need someone to build up the massage end of the business, and I was told I could have full reign and do whatever I wanted to build it up. (I have been in private practice...

Re: Need Advice - Working in a Health Club

Well, I actually contacted them about working there - a cold call. I am only looking to supplement my private practice income in a gym/spa setting - not looking to make a lot of money, and since I can use the facilities any time, I thought there wasn't much to lose. I googled the club for reviews - ...

Need Advice - Working in a Health Club

I was offered a position as a part time massage therapist in a health club that leases space from an adjoining hotel. (I also have a private practice in another city.) They have offered me a 60/40 split, and I would have to bring in my own sheets and supplies. There is no schedule - I would just let...

Yes, I am in MA also but I am also licensed in NH and wondering about this. I can't seem to find the NH link that addresses this.

Spa owner in NH need a massage establishment license?

Are there any massage therapists here who work in a NH spa? Does the spa owner need to get an establishment license before the massage therapist can work there?

Re: Proposal to a plastic surgeon

Thanks, Diana - good information. I was thinking along similar lines ... but you added a few more for consideration.

I submitted the proposal yesterday, so I am waiting to hear back. Thanks, again.

Re: Proposal to a plastic surgeon

Hi Pueppi! I appreciate your comments. I agree about the clients issue ... we don't "own" them, and they are free to go wherever they want. Hopefully if the situation arises (assuming, of course, that I do actually work for the doctor), that his interests would lie with the client/patient and have n...

Re: Proposal to a plastic surgeon

Thanks, Kathryn, for your reply. I would certainly have our agreement in writing. Since he is in a "transition" with the possibility of closing one office, I think he's considering many options. I can be flexible, but I should offer up some definitive days/times with the caveat that I can work other...

Proposal to a plastic surgeon

I approached a plastic surgeon who focuses on cosmetic surgery, anti-aging and skin care about working with him part time. I was drawn to this practice because he believes in the importance of the mind/body connection and embraces meditation, yoga, good nutrition, and he also employs a personal trai...

Re: Taking over another MT's business - form of agreement?

Update: Everything has been put on hold. Because there were a lot of significant life changes going on with the owner of this business, she has decided to rethink her situations. Slowing down and having the time to really think things through will help her in all of her decisions, including this one...

Re: Taking over another MT's business - form of agreement?

Well, we had structured an agreement based on the 50% of each client and a "pay as you go" scenerio, plus a 25% payment for any "new" client she would refer to me. I know this was generous, but I wanted to help out a friend without any financial investment up front from me, especially because it's a...

Re: Taking over another MT's business - form of agreement?

For anyone to have started a business, worked hard to grow it and then have to close their doors - the feeling of wanting to be compensated is not that unusual. People sell businesses all the time, but our business is different, I realize, but the feelings are the same. I get your point about the co...

Re: Taking over another MT's business - form of agreement?

JLW - No, no, and no. The ONLY association I would have with her is to see her clients if THEY so chose. Period. I am not moving into her space, buying any of her furnishings, associating with her in any way. We are completely separate entities. I have my own business down the street, my own office,...

Re: Taking over another MT's business - form of agreement?

It does seem like it could get a little complicated over time, and if the kickback perception is in fact illegal, then I will obviously not go this route. I need to check with my attorney. So does anyone have a suggestion for the best possible scenerio for all concerned? If it was me, I would want s...

Thank you both for your input. I may not be expressing myself clearly, so let me try again. Green Dragonfly - What you say is understood and agreed with. I am not "wanting her client list" as you put it. The massage therapist who is leaving the area plans on contacting her clients to inform them and...

Re: Taking over another MT's business - form of agreement?

You are right, we don't own our clients, and because we both feel that way also, the objective is to offer the clients a referral in the event they want one. Rather than just up and leave her clients without anyone to see them, she wants to be able to refer them to someone, and that would be me. She...

Taking over another MT's business - form of agreement?

Can anyone provide me with a template or form of agreement outlining terms of assuming the clients of another MT's when she moves? We have been colleagues for 9 years and she is now leaving the area. We are outlining our "wish lists" to incorporate into a formal agreement. I have agreed to pay her 5...

Re: credit cards or not?

JLW - I use www.propay.com because it's SIMPLE! You don't need anything - just a phone (cell phone is fine) or a computer to make a charge. You can make a charge from anywhere, so it's mobile. The percentage may be a little higher (I really don't know what the average is), but considering the conven...

Does anyone use Nu Skin products, specifically the Galvanic Spa device? It's an anti-aging system that claims to smooth wrinkles and improve the skin's appearance by using negative/positive settings on the device, in conjunction with their cleansing and moisturizing products.

Re: Swine Flu Concerns

I tend to agree with everyone, generally, but because we are in such close contact with people, we are more at risk than the average person and more likely to contract this, and any flu or cold for that matter. Practicing universal precautions and maintaining a healthy immune system, along with gett...

Re: Price of upgrading session with gift certificate

I don't differentiate with my gift certificates. I just put "donation" in the "To" section if it's a freebie.

I haven't done that with the "Buy one, get a half hour free" ones, but I think I should, considering what has been said.

Swine Flu Concerns

Is anyone concerned about this? What, if anything, are you going to be doing differently? We always practice universal precautions, but news reports are saying not to get close to people (kiss, hug, shake hands). Since our work is touching, how are you going to cut down your chances of contracting t...

Re: Price of upgrading session with gift certificate

Thanks, Breathe. Okay, so not the price of a half hour, nor the difference between the half hour and the full hour, but half the cost of the one hour session. Never thought of it that way. If they wanted to upgrade to a 90 minute session (which is $100), what would you charge? Based on what you said...
