Re: Writing a Letter of Recommendation

I've never heard of any employer outside of academia giving any weight to letters of recommendation, since they can be read by the applicant. I assume they'll prefer to contact you as a reference privately, no matter what you say.

Re: Vaccine Hysteria on the Rise

Yeah, I've lived in places where kids die of preventable diseases all the time, and met many parents who wished they had easy access to vaccines like we do in the US. Some kids are have medical conditions that prohibit them from getting certain vaccinations, and so they rely on herd immunity for sur...

Re: Low Blood Pressure after treatment

* The right thing to do when the client feels a bit dizzy is to advise him/her to lie down for 20 mins and tell him/her to slowly get off the table to prevent orthostatic hypotension. Let their legs dangle on the table initially before they step on the floor. For non-pregnant, either position for s...

Re: Hello from Miami

Hi Jorden, welcome to the forum. Generally speaking, people around here react better to conversations than to posting information without any kind of dialog. It's one of those unstated cultural things that might not be obvious if you don't have much experience with forums. If you like to post random...

How does massage mix with other wellness practices or kinds of treatments? How can people get the most out of their massage appoin...

Re: The things jobs seekers say...

Someone obviously never learned that you negotiate benefits (and yes, getting to use your preferred kind of products is a benefit) AFTER you've been given an offer. Which happens after an interview. Which happens after an employer decides that your resume and cover letter make you sound like someone...

Re: Practitioner Preference Question

Also I am curious to know if on the therapist side of things, there are female practitioners who prefer male clients? I have no preference as to male or female clients. The primary massage therapist I see for my aches and pains is a man. (I'm a woman, if that makes a difference.) If it shouldn't ma...

Re: Discrimination?

What client has the right to know who their therapist is dating or married to or sleeping with? (Given, that client would never feel comfortable getting a massage in my workplace anyway. We're in a very gay neighborhood and specialize in HIV+ clients, and we have gay-oriented materials in our waitin...

Re: HOW DID YOU PAY YOUR TUITION??

My tuition was about $1,200 per quarter, for seven quarters. There was no financial aid offered. I had about half of that saved before I started school, and the other half I paid by working full-time when I was in school. I found a job that allowed me to work 7am-4pm, and then I went to school from ...

Re: Examples of Business Cards

I'm glad it works for you guys. I've still never actually seen a massage therapist's card that had a photo and didn't either look sexual or just unprofessional, but I'll believe you if you say yours are great and have filled up your practice. I still wouldn't do it myself. I asked my mentor for her ...

The blue one in the middle does strike a nice balance. It's not so ego-focused as the top one or unprofessional looking as the bottom one. (I'll admit, though, that's really his designer's fault. Whoever picked out that font was an idiot, and the botched photoshop job on the blue-background card is ...

Re: Examples of Business Cards

I've seen two kinds of business cards with photos. One is the kind that insurance agents hand out. Here's a card, let's slap an unrelated photo of me in the corner. It's good for insurance agents because all of the people from the same agency are required to have the exact same card. But it's also j...

Welcome! 1.) I'm in NE Ohio, so not too far from you. There are many successful male MTs in this area, but it really depends on the right sort of work environment. The lead massage therapist in our center is male, as is our reflexologist, and they are consistently booked solid. Now, we are a more cl...

I think your professional headshot belongs on your website, rather than your business card. I've never seen a well-branded business card with a photo of a person on it.

But how different can they origin, insertions and innervations be? Not too different, but a little bit. Many muscles have a range of normal attachments (especially on the torso), so you'll see some books saying L4, others saying L5, etc. Different anatomists divide the brain differently too, as an ...

Re: Sign for your business

Some local businesses here put out those chalkboard easels for kids, and write special messages on it, depending on the day. It's an inexpensive way to get your name out, while preventing ad blindness at the same time. But yeah, check your local regulations first.

Re: Opinions on business name

I actually considered L'chaim myself, as I am Jewish and this is for life, but felt I was "tribing" my language too much. I can't imagine the local conservative, covered Muslim women would be drawn to my business. And I aim part of my work to modest populations, and run specials based on a variety ...
